Bold take: a rising star from the Phillies now faces a potentially lengthy suspension that could shake how we view his talent and the league’s drug policy. But here’s where it gets controversial and worth a closer look...
Reports indicate that Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Johan Rojas is disputing a possible 80-game ban from Major League Baseball after an alleged failure test for a performance-enhancing substance. The process follows MLB’s drug program, where the appeals stage occurs before any public discipline is announced, in line with the collective bargaining agreement with the players’ association.
Rojas, 25, made his major league debut in 2023 and later left the Dominican Republic’s World Baseball Classic roster, a move confirmed by Phillies general manager Nelson Cruz on Monday. In the prior season, Rojas slashed .224 with one home run, 18 RBIs, and 12 stolen bases for Philadelphia. He spent August 1 with Triple-A Lehigh Valley and did not appear for the Phillies for the rest of the season. Through spring training this year, he is hitting 1-for-11 for the Phillies.
Over his career, Rojas has posted a .252 batting average, six homers, 73 RBIs, and 51 stolen bases across 250 games.
